It was a pleasure to welcome Manchester based electronic music producer Mr Scruff (Andy Carthy) who invited Japanese Jazz sextet, Soil & “Pimp” Sessions to record at 80 Hertz as part of an upcoming project.
We setup various microphones and instruments in isolation across the studio complex prior to the bands arrival to give the flexibility of a multitrack recording setup and a live recording setup when needed throughout the session.
Drums, double bass and brass were all recorded live with piano and vocal overdubs later in the session. Andy was keen to try out several of our unique sounding microphones including a pair of placid audio copperphones which were used on the piano, brass and vocals and an old gooseneck microphone which we used as a heavily distorted, trash mic,
