Columbia’s signing Twisted Wheel have done a cover of the legendary Zombies track “She’s not there”.
The original of which reached number 12 in the UK singles chart in 1964. Twisted Wheel wanted this cover to be a more firey, faster and snarling version of the original.
We were keen to keep the 60’s crispness and vibe which people associated with bands like The Zombies. So, we wanted to track it live but only managed the bass and drums together due to a dubiously ill/hung over Johnny Brown (guitars/vocals)…
We hammered our Watkins CopiCat tape delay to achieve a vintage retro tone, riding the feedback rate (allowed by a special mod) live as the takes went down, bouncing off the cues given by Johnnys rawkus guitar part. After that 4 hour session of fun, we hit the vocals in the same manner.
It was then time for a retro contemporary mix with that 60’s crisp feel of which we’re proud of . Columbia loved it and are using it as a free 7″ to go with their self titled debut album at HMV stores.
